On a lovely sunny morning, ThrapstonTown kicked off downhill, In what was to be a very good game of fast flowing football.
The early exchanges were very fast & furious & we then started to get on top.
After seeing off a few Weekley attacks with great defending from John & Dominic, we broke the deadlock. Dominic used his strength to win the ball in the center of the field & hit a lovely through ball to Peter who’s excellent change of pace easily beat the Weekley defender & hit a great shot past the keeper. 0-1 to Thrapston.
Minutes later Fergus won the ball in the middle & did the same as Dominic had done moments earlier, by sliding a great ball through the defense for Peter to run onto & again, his pace beat the last man, but this time Pete’s hard shot hit the post & bounced across the face of goal to safety.
That was the final action of the first half.
0-1 H/T
Weekley made a couple of changes at half time & came at us strongly.
We too made changes with Matthew & Adam coming on for John & Kyle.
Weekley took advantage of us going to sleep for a throw in, & nicked a scrappy goal. 1-1.
We then had to defend hard as Weekley pushed us back, & came at us in search of another goal. With them pushing forward we almost caught them on the break a few times, with Adam & Fergus winning the ball in midfield, but just not finding Peter with controlled passes.
Weekley then had another attack which it looked like Matthew & Dominic had dealt with, but the ball bobbled into the goalmouth & a Weekley player hit the ball into the net.
We then pushed hard for the equalizing goal but the Weekley defense stood firm & it was not to be our day.
But with a great performance from every player, we felt we were very unlucky not to get at least a draw from one of the fastest & best games we have seen at this level.
This great team performance was rewarded with a team MOM award.
Well played Blues.
