Rockingham Forest Colts 0 v Thrapston Town
5
There was a definite sense of spring in the air, as the side travelled to Corby for this encounter. The snowdrops were out, blossom aplenty, and a not altogether rare sighting this weekend of the lesser red nosed fergie, practicing its irrational warbling for all to hear, joined occasionally by its Spanish mate in a chorus of righteous indignation. Oh to be in England, etc, etc.
And so to the game; A potential banana skin, against a side in the Bolton mould – a couple of really decent players, with the remainder deploying robust techniques to unsettle an opponent not willing to compete and take the rough with the smooth. And all this to be played out on what was essentially a square pitch up at the Triangle – geometry heaven!
The game quickly settled into a pattern – Town camped in the Colts half creating chance after chance and not finishing them, or being denied by the excellent Colts keeper. It was only a speculative punt forward from Connor Morson that sailed over the keepers head from 25 yards (almost the half way line) that separated the sides at the break. Town actually could have been behind as Keeper Vitue was called upon to make a couple of decent saves himself.
The second half and more of the same. The result never really in doubt, but oh how the Town should have been out of sight. A brace from Hodgson, an excellent finish from Luke Rivett, and a close range finish and pike from Jordan Davis saw out the margin to five.
At the back, on occasions deckchairs and a newspaper would have been the order of the day, but when called upon the defence stood firm, as indeed the side stood firm and did not allow themselves to become too unsettled by the rumbustious nature of some of the Colts approach late on.
All in all a good result. One that pushes the side clear at the top of the table. A three week break now and then a point from the final two league encounters and the league title will be winging its way to Chancery Lane.
Come on you yellows.
Final score Thrapston Town Juniors Five, Rockingham Forest Colts Nul.
