In a weekend of sporting upsets there was a list of reasons to grieve the Thrapston management team following a rather lacklustre performance.
But let us not dwell on disappointment but pursue the positives. Luke O’Dell gave another excellent performance between the sticks with assured handling and decisiveness off his line; the twin rocks in the centre of defence Liam Carter and Charlie Whight commanded and campaigned with authority and finally up front Ali Rutter battled to make the most of the scraps that rest of the team provided – a lonesome trail.
The rest of the team put in shifts from the ordinary to the unacceptable but in truth we faced a formidable force that the Generals Blue have become. Generals are a physically strong and determined side with quality footballers throughout the squad, this is a potent weapon in any circumstances – and their attitude today was first class.
The goals conceded were a couple of long shots that flew high into the net and a scrambled corner, which in the shots count for, was deserved. Thrapston on the other hand maybe mustered one effort on target.
Thrapston were second best and the best team took the points. This weeks mantra was “winning isn’t everything, wanting too is”, so let each player look at his performance and ask honestly how much this rings true to themselves and let them address why their attitude which was so good last week was missing this week.
