A tough game against a well organized attacking Generals Red team.
Seconds after the opening kick off the Reds came at Thrapston with an attack. It was well defended but it was a taster of things to come.
The Reds attacked in numbers in the first half, an indeed throughout the whole game, but Thrapston also had some good chances. A snap shot from Tom produced a good save and a looping shot from Fergus from the corner of the box went over the bar. John and Jake were dealing with Reds attacks well while Adam was tenacious in midfield.
The breakthrough came from a clearance from Aiden that fell to Tom. A battle with a Reds defender saw Tom come out on top, take the ball wide left and score with a cracking cross goal shot.
Unfortunately Tom played a part in the Reds equalizer when he handled the ball as he stumbled. The resultant penalty was very well taken and gave Aiden little chance.
Just before the half Kyle came on for Jake who took a ball to the stomach and was left winded.
With Peter coming on for Fergus in the second half and with the game nervously poised at 1-1 the Reds attacked us more and more, getting behind us in numbers on too many occasions. Their second goal came from a corner. A Reds player received the ball 3 yards out from the goal line and we failed to close him down quick enough before he got his shot off.
Their third came as Adam received the ball from a goal kick but was quickly and well tackled from the Reds who took the ball to make it 3-1.
The Reds fourth caught us out defending too far up field. Peter tracked back as the last man but had the ball taken from him by the Reds who went on to score.
From the resultant kick off a series of 5 lovely passes between Fergus, Peter and Tom took the ball inside the Reds box for Tom to bury another good shot to finish the game 4-2.
MOM
For another great display in goal, keeping the score down at 4, even with a retail injury, Aiden Ward.
