If football awarded goals and wins for effort the boys would have scored and won many more this season.
Once again the gap between the two teams was small. The opening exchanges were very similar to last week. There was a lot of action in midfield with chances created at both ends. Half time saw Burton one up. The goal created by a sweeping move. Unfortunately, we left our defenders (Keenan and Bradley) trying to stop four of their attackers. Logan could do nothing about the well struck shot.
Over the past few weeks we have leaked goals in the second half as players get tired, the concentration goes and we loose our marking discipline. I asked the players to think about these things at half time. Their response was magnificent. Into the wind and up the slope they played the best second half this season. The boys went close many times. Some great play from the whole team really working together to create chances. Danny was marginally the closet to scoring. (From where I was stood we would have benefitted from goal-line technology. But that is a football debate for another time).
In summary, I’m feeling frustrated at this moment in time. We deserved something out of this game. At the risk of boring regular readers to death…we are getting better. It really is only a matter of time before all that effort is turned into goals and wins.
