A difficult game played against a very good Burton Youth United team. In truth, we started this match at a slower pace than we had done for many weeks – giving the boys from Burton too much time and space. They exploited these opportunities to the full scoring three before the break.
By contrast, the second half display was much better. We were a lot more ‘on our toes’ and the movement from the team as a whole was much better. Where as the first half had been largely played in our half I felt the second was much more even – our midfielders and forwards giving Burton more to think about. Having said that, Burton made the most of their chances and scored another three well taken goals before the finish. It would have been more but for good defending and another fine display in goal by Logan. (Who has probably walked home because he was too muddy to get into a car).
We started the game with only 8 available players and finished it with 6! Once again, everybody should be proud of the efforts that they put in.
We are learning as a team. Part of playing is coping and adapting to the conditions. Everybody loves to talk about the weather – including me. It was the first blows of winter today. Conditions were wet, muddy and there was a cold wind. However, it was the same for both teams. I’m sure that next week we have learnt what to expect.
