This week we were up against the unbeaten Hellenic Yth who were fortunate to beat us 3 - 2 in the opening game of the season. With us fired up after going on a unbeaten run of 5 matches we were determined to avenge our opening day defeat. A very physical game straight from the start saw us put under some early pressure from the confident Hellenic but with the back line of Joe, Charlie, Ben and Curtis in control, this enabled us to get our passing game going. Dean playing on the right side of midfield this week caused all kinds of problems for the Hellenic defence and we started to get on top. A great shot from Scott saw their Keeper unable to hold on and Max swooped in classic centre forward style to put us into a 1 - 0 lead. Back came Hellenic and from a poor clearance a speculative shot soars over everyone's head and drops into the net to level the scores 1 - 1. With Harry, Scott and Liam beginning to control the midfield, Jack was seeing more of the ball down the left hand side and from this side we got our noses in front from a great run and finish from Jack. 2 - 1. With us now in control and putting the Hellenic defence under immense pressure Max furthered the lead to take us to the interval 3 - 1 up.
2nd half.
With Hellenic shell shocked at half time we needed to keep them out for the 1st 10 minutes of the 2nd half. This we did until a succession of corners and a mix up in our defence let Hellenic back in to the match, 3 - 2. With both sides showing great skill and commitment the match was now finely balanced. With the play switching from end to end this was a great game for the neutral. Another corner from Hellenic saw the ball unfortunately deflected into our net to level the scores 3 - 3. Hayden and Josh on for Curtis and Jack.With some fresh legs on the left hand side and Josh and Hayden linking well, Scott broke into the Hellenic box went round 2 players and the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line which would have given us a deserved victory. Final score 3 - 3.
A great team performance today. Hellenic will consider themselves fortunate to have come away with a point.
