After last weeks below par performance we needed to get back to winning ways. Our opponents Aztecs have always been a tough nut to crack and today was no exception. With a few changes to the starting line up and Connor making his debut for the Yellows we took the game to Aztecs. The reshuffled back four of Joe, Curtis, James and Andrew gave us a solid foundation on which to take advantage of the conditions and put Aztecs on the back foot. Harry and debutant Connor were providing a great supply line for Dean and Max, ably supported by Liam and Scott but the Aztec keeper was in fine form saving good efforts from both Dean and Max. A ball from Liam into Max saw him weave some magic past 3 defenders and unleash an unstoppable shot into the roof of the Aztecs net 1 - 0. Josh on for Scott and Jack on for Liam. From some more great build up play Dean crashed a shot against the bar. Half time 1 - 0.
2nd Half. We expected Aztecs to pile on the pressure at the start of the 2nd half but it was the Yellows who were playing all the football and from a sweet through ball from Dean, Max slipped the ball past the Aztecs keeper to score his and our second 2 - 0. With Harry and Connor bossing the centre of midfield it was left to the Aztecs to go route 1 to try and get back in the game, however Andrew, James, Curtis and Joe were dealing well with everything that was thrown at them. With Josh and Jack providing a great service for our front 2 we were well in control, but the Aztecs weren't done yet and from a corner only an amazing headed clearance from Connor from under his own cross bar kept us 2 - 0 in front. Scott on for Harry and Liam on for Jack. Right at the death from another series of corners Aztecs got their consolation goal. Final Score 2 - 1.
Some very good performances today, we really rolled up our sleeves and got on with it playing some outstanding football in the process.
Well done everybody. A massive thanks as always to the parents and friends who turn out in all weathers to support the team.
Man of the Match: For a great debut performance, Connor.
