A goal given away in the early part of the game when Thrapston were still asleep was the difference in this closely fought game.
Both teams played exciting and good football and Aztecs were first to strike when the Thrapston defence and midfield were slow to close down the strikers of Aztec and were punished by a well taken goal. With 10 mins of the first half remaining Thrapston woke up and decided to play football and Jamie Gambrell was unlucky not to score with a well placed shot.
Thrapston started the second half full of vigor and energy but found it hard to break down a well organized Aztec defense and were punished when a great solo run by the Aztec outside right finished coolly to put Thrapston 2 down. This seemed to spur Thrapston on and we soon pulled one back when “Man of the Match” Aaron Wright scored when left unmarked in the box. Thrapston piled on the pressure with Luke Stevens going close twice and Matthew Smith making the keeper pull off a great save with the last few minutes remaining to ensure Aztec claimed the win.
If we had played in the first 20 minutes how we played for the remainder of the game the result may well have gone in our favour, boys bare this in mind for the next game with them in a couple of weeks time.
