A goal conceded in the dying seconds of the game was the difference in this closely fought game.
Both teams played exciting and good football and Aztecs were first to strike when the Thrapston defence was slow to close down the strikers of Aztec and were punished by a well taken goal. Against the wind and rain Thrapston battled hard but could not really pressurize the Aztec goal.
Thrapston started the second half full of vigor and energy but found it hard to break down a well-organized Aztec defense. Thrapston remained camped in the Aztec half and eventually Connor Gates managed to put the ball into the Aztec net after a goalmouth scramble, Thrapston continued to push for the winner and were caught with a sucker punch when seconds from the end of the game there was a great solo run by the Aztec forward who beat 2 defenders then rounded the keeper to put the ball into an empty net.
Passion and desire was shown by the majority of our players in the cold wind and at times driving rain. Yet another superb game where we just fell short. Two weeks time will see the return fixture at Thrapston, lets aim for the whole team to demonstrate the passion and desire that is required to win these games.
Man of the Match was Matthew Watkin for his defensive duties.
