A comfortable victory this may seem, but the Falcons battled their hearts out for the whole match.
It took the blue’s a while to get going & when we did, we scored the first goal, a nice piece of dribbling from Kyle saw him score to make it 1-0. We didn’t have it all our own way after that with the falcons putting us under a little pressure, but Peter, making his first appearance in goal this season, calmly saved any threat from them.
Some good defending from Matthew & Dominic in the first half saw away any other threatening moves from the Ise Lodge side, & Fergus was tidy in the middle. It was then from a clearance that Tom ran on to & tucked away a tidy finish. 2-0 at Half Time.
Adam & John came on for Fergus & Matthew. We then had a really good spell of pressure camped in the Falcons half, & a bouncing ball fell to Kyle who hit a great volley towards goal that took the slightest of deflections off Toms knee, but Kyle was credited with the goal. More attacking pressure from Thrapston saw Adam getting into some good attacking positions & almost grabbing his first goal this season, but desperate defending was all that stopped him. Then came a gem of a goal from Tom who took the ball round 3 Falcons & finished with a very tidy shot. The Falcons lads were really down at this point & to add to their disappointment, Tom, after hitting a great volley against the post, saw another hard shot blocked but fly over the keeper for an own goal. John had made some lovely runs in the 2nd half to complete a very tidy performance, one which earned him the MOM award. So we won 5-0 but all credit to the Falcons who can be proud of their efforts to keep our lads at bay.
Well done Blues!
MOM: John Vertigan, Excellent 2nd half performance.
