This was a very tight game, with 2 fairly even teams both wanting the win.
In a very scrappy opening 5 mins, ThrapstonTown Blues then settled down & started to find space to both run & pass into. Some really strong early runs from Fergus were testing the Hawks defense, & both Kyle & Jake were finding good positions to push forward from. A spell of attacking pressure saw us win some corners, & it was from one of these that produced a gem of a goal. Fergus took the corner & the ball bounced out to Adam who struck a hard first time shot straight into the back of the net! A surprised Adam then realised his great strike had gone in & reeled away with Joy! The whole team were happy for him as it was a goal he so richly deserved. Peter was having no trouble in goal with some great saves & good kicking display.
John was rarely troubled in another great defensive performance. Fergus & Kyle were getting the better of the Hawks defence every time with some great skill & strong runs, & when the ball fell to Kyle at the end of the first half he hit a good shot just wide of the target.
H/T 1-0.
2nd half changes were made with Tom & Matt replacing Kyle & John respectively.
Tom was his usual sharp energetic self with some great early runs & skillful turns.
Fergus then won a bouncing ball right on the centre spot, & hit a great shot high over every Hawks defender & carried by the wind looked like it would bounce into the net, but a last gasp tip over from the Hawks keeper denied Fergus his first goal this season.
A great spell of pressure from Thrapston saw us win 4 corners on the bounce with Tom & Jake both having chances, but good defending kept them out.
Another good powerful shot from Tom was saved, & Thrapston looked strong at this point & never looked like giving a goal away, with Matthew looking strong in defence & Jake working hard, we were playing very well. So all in all a great battling game, with very good individual performances from every player. But it was Adam that stuck out with his great strike, that earned him the MOM award.
Well done Blue’s!
MOM: Adam Wingad, Great all round game, tipped by a great goal.
