There is no doubting the quality of the Kestrels side but the eventual score line of 5-2 was, with no disrespect to the Kestrels, probably not a true reflection of the quality of the game and the performance of the Blues.
In terrible, cold conditions, a cutting wind and stinging rain, Thrapston immediately went at the Kestrels from the kick off harassing them on the ball and pushing forward whenever we had the chance. Some great defending from Fergus and John with Jake tracking back kept the Kestrels at bay with Aiden making some good saves when he had to. Constant pressure on the Kestrels gave us the ball and with their characteristic surging runs Tom and Peter linked up well and Peter had two well-taken goals with either foot in the first half. A hatrick missed with an attempt a few inches wide just before half time.
To go in 2-0 up at HT was certainly a shock for the Kestrels and they came out with intent in the second half.
With Kyle on for Peter and Dom on for Jake, the Kestrels pushed us into our own half from the off. Relentless pressure lead to the Kestrels pulling two goals back. While Kyle and Tom were able to push forward on occasion, Dom was kept busy in midfield and the whole team had to do their bit in defence. Two more goals saw the Kestrels take a 4-2 lead before an unlucky deflection off Tom from a corner saw an own goal make it 5-2.
The Blues certainly didn’t deserve to have 5 scored against them and the Kestrels coach remarked how hard we made it for them in a strong battling performance.
MOM
It would be unfair to single one person out with such a great team performance so it goes to the whole team.
Well done lads, you should be proud of yourselves.
