After the win last week a difficult match against a well organised and disciplined Generals team. Right from the off the Generals put us under pressure and scored after 2 minutes. Three further goals saw Generals leading at 4-0 half time.
After the break Generals again put us under a lot of pressure – scoring 5 further goals. The score does not accurately tell the match story. Despite the fact that we were conceding goals I was proud of the effort put in by the boys – and they should be too. Nobody put their head down or stopped trying. We were creating chances right up to the end of the match and but for solid defending from the Generals and the crossbar / post the scores would have been closer. I’d like to draw the clubs attention to individual contributions: Logan – Superb goalkeeping once again. Massive goal kicks. Great penalty save! Keenan – Very solid in defence. Unlucky not to score through two stunning strikes on goal. Bradley – Forming a great partnership with Keenan at the back. Some great tackles put in. Greg – Playing the ‘holding’ role. Supported both his defence and midfielders / strikers. Tireless running. Well done. Danny – Great running at the Generals with the ball at his feet. Helped to create our chances. Elliot – Fantastic at putting corners in. Elliot will also put his head on the ball. Again, created chances. Jamie – Unlucky not to score with a couple of great strikes. Some great tackling. Callum – Great speed when running. Fantastic awareness of possibilities through his ‘off the ball’ running. Joe – Tireless running as ever. On another day Joe would have scored a hatfull of goals.
I’ve said before in my match reports that we are close to being a really good team.
I stand by what I said. We need to work on the basics throughout the team – marking players, getting to the ball first and defending on the goal side.
