One poor performance is understandable and can be rationalised, but 2 weeks on the trot when many players decide to become recluses – unacceptable! Unfortunately that was the story today.
We started slowly and found ourselves down by a goal after some shocking defensive blunders. But Thrapston clawed their way back and gradually got a foothold that we turned into constructive possession and chances. Ryan Wright restored parity and confidence when he scrambled the ball over the line after some whole-hearted approach play from Alex Rutter. In fact Thrapston finished the half stronger and all-square was a fair reflection at half time.
The second half was not good. Alex Rutter toiled with passion and grit in midfield but had little support from his colleagues. Ryan Wright ran tirelessly for lost causes when we managed to get the ball into forward positions and newcomer Luke O’Dell did all he could in goal but was often left hopelessly exposed by a square and static defence and that includes the midfield. Not good at all.
Not so much licking the wounds this week but major surgery required for a severe mauling. Its hard to stomach it, but the team were so disappointing this week you have to question their motivation and desire – and that’s something only they can answer.
