Our 1st competitive game at 11aside turns out to be a
cracking affair with 2 of the best teams at this level facing
each other.
From the start Hellenic put us on the back foot and only
some great keeping by Kern kept the score level.Then a failure
to clear our lines saw Hellenic take advantage and take a
1-0 lead. As seems to be the norm with us at the moment,
we wait for the opposition to score before we start to play
and from some good team play around the box Scott hit an
unstoppable shot to level the scores. Now both sides were
beginning to open each other up,but then from another
poor clearance by us,a speculative shot from the edge of
the box sailed over Kern's head to make the half time score
2-1.
2nd half. Subs. Hayden for Luke and James for Andrew. We
tore at Hellenic in search of an equaliser at the start of
the 2nd half, but although they held firm, we were now starting
to dominate the play. Then from a great turn and a solo
run Max outstripped the Hellenic defense and coolly slotted the
ball into the bottom corner of the net to level the score
2-2 .Then we give Hellenic a chance to get back in front
by conceeding a penalty.Fortunately for us Kern was having
none of it and saved superbly. With us now starting
to get on top we pushed forward in search of a winner
only to get caught on the break with a sucker punch and Hellenic
took the lead 3-2. Try as we might to get back level,
the Hellenic defense managed to hang on. Final score 3-2.
A very close game between 2 good teams, on another day
we would have run out winners!
