20 weeks on and on the surface nothing much has changed
as Thrapston ran out 8 – 1 winners. Scratch the surface
and there was quite a lot different. Both teams had lost
players and Kingswood were still showing signs of bewilderment
at being placed in the top division.
This was a very one sided game with 10 men Kingswood rarely
threatening the Thrapston goal, so it was always going to
be a case of how many Thrapston could score. 5 minutes into
the season Ryan Wright opened the account for the season
following large amounts of possession and so the expectation
was for the floodgates to open. Alas like a good aria we
had to wait for the fat lady to properly warm up her larynx
before the finale and in the last 10 minutes of the half
Palmer, Barlow and Wrighty added to the score.
The second half was more of the same Thrapston with vast
amounts of possession and Kingswood defending with immense
passion and desire and with a goalkeeper having an exceptional
day between the sticks. Palmer added another 3 goals to his
tally and Barlow belted in his second from miles out. Kingswood
scored a very well deserved consolation goal for their honest
hard work to complete the scoring.
A very satisfying win but the true test of how good
Thrapston are is over the next 2 weeks when they play the
super powers of Rockingham Forest and Hellenics – let
us convene and take stock of what we are truly made of then.
