Corby Hellenic Fisher 4 v Thrapston Town
0
Perchance to dream to take up arms against the Hellenics and by opposing end their domination of the league – ay there’s the rub!
Thrapston viewed the noble route only to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune during stoppage time to concede 2 undeserved goals to run out second best in this contest.
A weakened squad assembled on the field of battle but their resolve was true. Steely determination in the former steel town was the by word each player took to the arena and Thrapston dug in for the assault that was to follow. It followed and Thrapston defended resolutely Carter and Whight rocks at the centre of defence and Gadsby a goliath in goal. Alas a couple of lapses were punished severely and Hellenics came in 2 up at half time.
The second half was once more into the breach and against the wind threatened to be grueling; but when the blast of war blows in our ears we stiffen our sinews, summon up the blood - and battle.
Every player rose to the occasion and excelled themselves, to the point of exhaustion as Thrapston battled back to have a magnificent second half.
The Hellenic defence learnt the meaning of hell, he wears a yellow no 19 shirt and Alexander Palmer created panic every time he rampaged at them. The central midfield partnership of Morrison and Rutter stood firm and David Morton wore a groove down the right touchline with his efforts.
Unlucky not to get a goal and really get back in the game Thrapston were really undone by late sucker punch goals, which physically hurt such a rousing performance. The team should take great pride from the last 2 weeks performances and use them to move up the league – they deserve to.
But remember we make our own destiny by our deeds on the pitch, which comes from the hard work we do off it – well played lads - very proud of today’s performance.
