Thrapston entertained the Ise Lodge Eagles one of the chasing pack in terms of Division 1 status – a more typical opponent in this division. So how would the Thrapstonites fair against a seasoned division 1 team?
In truth we made hard work of it in the first half and relied heavily on the concrete pillars at the centre of the defence Carter & Whight; and should they get beaten an inspired Gadsby in goal; and when he was beaten a solid crossbar – by heck it got nail-biting at times. On the stroke of half time Ryan Wright was bowled over in the box and he showed great composure to roll the penalty into the bottom corner.
The second half was much more like it with Thrapston gaining the upper hand and playing some flowing football. Ryan Wright stole the applause with a fantastic strike from the edge of the box for his second. Sam Peck came close to opening his goals account and has shown excellent progress this season – his time will come.
The final word went to David Morton who again ran tirelessly for the team and he rifled home in the final minute a very deserved goal.
Absolutely delighted again for effort, commitment and performance, especially with certain personnel missing. The team is showing their maturity and growing in confidence – the self-belief generated from going toe-to-toe with the top teams is coming through. Lets keep moving forward and upwards; based on this performance you deserve to.
