Against an extremely strong Weekley Hurricanes, Thrapston were always going to find it tough and going 1-0 down within seconds of the kick off as the referee generously allowed the Hurricanes to charge down the Thrapston kick and storm through to score – harsh.
What followed was a rear guard action as Weekley pressed and Thrapston held out. Christopher Stoker showed great bravery and skill in goal and Daniel Gambrell stood firm in defence. The introduction of Jack Peet injected pace and threat up front and Thrapston worked some good openings but could not find the finish.
A second goal was conceded during the half and in truth Weekley deserved this but Thrapston had battled hard and stood firm against some excellent play.
However the match got much tougher in the second half as Weekley had the slope with them and relentlessly pushed forward. Thrapston wilted and conceded 4 in the second half none of which Alex Lloyd could do anything about.
Well beaten but undeterred Thrapston battled on to the end and were unlucky not to have grabbed a goal or two for their efforts. Thrapston will not meet many teams as good as this and all the players agreed that matches like this will make them better players and a better team.
